Philip Treacy’s Hat Designs
March 28, 2009
Born in 1967 in a tiny village of West Ireland, Philip Treacy began sewing when he was five. As a child, what amazed him the most were weddings; “They were equivalent of fashion shows to me. It seemed so glamorous to see these creatures appear in these extraordinary clothes.” Later on, he moved to Dubling to study fashion at National College of Art & Design where he made hats “as a hobby” to go with the clothes he designed. He specialized in making hats and soon in 1989 was “discovered” by Isabella Blow, the style editor of Tatler magazine.
